These are a great looking alternative to Red Oak Jo Staff, also sold at Enso Martial Arts Shop, for all Aikido practitioners and many traditional Jiu Jitsu and Ninjutsu practitioners too. Preferred by many for it's great looks, smooth finish and grain structure. Many people claim training advantages with the White Oak over the Red Oak, being lighter or stronger or even allowing better Qi flow. At Enso Martial Arts we believe these are just great looking Jo Staff and perfect for Aikido and Ninjutsu practitioners.
Jo Staff are reported to have been designed due to a failing of the bo staff in fighting against katana. The shorter Jo Staff proved to be much more effective. Nowadays they are one of the main weapons in Aikido and Ninjutsu and many traditional Japanse JuJitsu styles. Made from solid White Oak, these are a super durable weapon, designed to be used for Japanese Martial Arts training and can take the level of training inflicted upon them. These are a really tough weapon and will stand up to some abuse, but don’t forget it is wood. Wood can break so a real thumping could end up with a broken stick. Look after your staff and it will last you for years.
Made in the standard Jo Staff length of 50 inches / 127cm with a 1" / 2.5cm diameter, they weigh in about 500g or half a kilo. You can also buy the Jo Staff Case to store and carry it in keeping it safe, and avoid getting bumps and nicks when traveling to and from class.
“If you really want to have the best possible staff, take some sandpaper to the varnish and give it a few coats of linseed oil. It’ll make a massive difference to the feel of the staff.”
