Beginner's Tai Chi Chuan Description

'On the back' of Beginner's Tai Chi Chuan

Ever since I heard the comment that Grandmaster Yeung Sau Chung's book, 1 for people who have several years of tai chi chuan experience, but is untouchable for beginning students, the idea of publishing a book for beginners set in. I set my goal then to focus my teachings to prepare, lead, and guide practitioners to climb this tai chi chuan summit.

Part of the original manuscript of this book was from a marketing class project I finished in college in the early 1980s. I recalled the professor told me that besides the typical marketing data and strategy analysis, it would be a better marketing project if I provided more background information about this unknown art, such as history, philosophy, and why so many people were doing it in China.

Since tai chi chuan is a novel art in this country, I was able to actually follow my marketing project's guidelines to make my contribution to popularize tai chi chuan. In the past several years, I published several articles in Tai Chi and Inside Kung-Fu magazines and I was invited to conduct workshops in Vancouver, B.C., Canada in 1984. I also started to tai chi chuan classes at the Brookline Adult, Community, and Education Program, conducted workshops in France, The Czech Republic, and England, and began a cable television program teaching tai chi chuan on Brookline Access TV.

Publishing this book affirms my contribution to popularize this wonderful art of tai chi chuan in the United States. Over the years, people have doubted the accomplishments of the Yang style tai chi chuan practitioners. They said that it is impossible for a human being to achieve such skill and power. What these people do not know is how much work each practitioner has invested in his train-ing. I hope people will continue to comprehend the rich, informative, and guarded art of Yang style tai chi chuan.
