History of Wing Chun Kung Fu Wing Chun - meaning literally everlasting springtime - is one of the youngest styles of kung fu, founded four hundred years ago in the south of China. It was founded by a Buddhist nun named Ng Mei, who was recognised throughout the country as one of the five top fighters of that period. Ng Mei, of the renowned Shaolin Temple, was highly proficient in the existing styles of kung fu; yet, she felt it was possible to devise more effective fighting methods. From her experience as a female fighter, she felt that existing styles relied too much on brute strength.
