Shotokan Karate Description
'On the back' of Shotokan Karate
Shotokan Karate is the most widely practised style of karate in the world today. Its roots can be traced back hundreds of years through Japan and Okinawa to mainland China and the Shaolin Temple. For most of its history it has been taught clandestinely, with past masters only entrusting their secrets to a select few pupils. This approach, however, has changed dramatically over the last seventy-five years, with karate being exported throughout the world.
Covers the fundamental principles and philosophy, and the main striking, blocking and kicking techniques of this traditional martial art
Breaks down the moves with detailed instruction and describes the most common mistakes
Outlines flexibility training and the physiology of stretching
Provides an insight into the relatively unknown and mysterious art of Kyusho Jitsu
With some 400 illustrations, this book is an invaluable learning aid for all karate students - regardless of grade
- enabling them to build upon and enhance their knowledge and proficiency in this truly fascinating martial art.
This book is unique in that it provides detailed theory and explanation of the karate techniques, but presented in a manner that can be easily followed and understood by all. It is comprehensive and meticulous, and contains a depth of material unsurpassed in a book of this nature. Rick Clark (eighth dan)
Ashley Croft is a fourth dan in Shotokan Karate and fourth dan in Ao Denkou Jitsu, having trained with some of the top instructors in the world.
