Makiwara are traditionally a karate training tool and developed from the island of Okinawa, Originally they would have been a post buried and fixed deep into the ground, extending up to shoulder height. The post would have some flex so a poor strike will ‘bounce’ off and a clean strike can penetrate it. Users would be expected to strike the Makiwara at least 100 times per day with both hands.
Makiwara offer a wide range of striking options including all open hand strikes and closed hand strikes, elbow strikes, Kicks and knee strikes. This Leather Makiwara Board is an adaptation on the original Makiwara for those who can’t bury a post in the ground. It has been built with mimicking original Makiwara. It has the same ‘spring’ you need for feedback on your strikes, and has a leather strike pad which has a similar resistance to the original rope. You can condition your body in exactly the same way and train just as effectively.
The true benefit of these is that they are same and need little to get using them. Easily hung on a wall, you can take it anywhere and train as you like. Made with a backing of hard wood, with a karate logo written in Japanese Kanji on the top. Fitted with a leather wrapped strike board pinned into place.
“The conditioning in the hands will take time to build up, both to full power and for a full training session, overuse early on will be detrimental to your training, and will slow the progression down. Patience in needed and build up little by little."

We have a few different options for posting your items at Enso Martial Arts Shop. Prices vary depending on the overall order, weight, size etc. The checkout page will automatically workout the possible options for you.
We can send your item(s) in the following ways:
Royal Mail 2nd Class signed - Pretty slow service but will get there eventually. We will try and post it the same day the order comes to us, but not always possible for us. More than likely we will post the next day or day after that. Only possible for small lightweight items, as heavy items are more expensive than UPS.
UPS Standard - Order before 12pm and we can pack and post the same day to be with you the next day. If you order after 12pm we can still pack it and have it ready but it is less likely to be collected the same day (still possible though, depends when the UPS man comes) and will arrive the day after that.
UPS Worldwide - For anywhere outside the UK, we can post the same day but delivery times are dependent on the destination. Approximate delivery times are as follows:
