Bokken have existed as long as Katana or Samurai Swords have existed. They are the perfect training tool to replace Katana as practicing sparring drills with live Katana can be pretty dangerous. These White oak bokken are a great looking alternative to the standard red oak bokken for many Japanese martial arts. They are used by many styles including Kenjitsu, Aikido, Japanese Ju Jitsu and Ninjutsu. They are perfect for partner work, drills and forms. If you purchase one of our plastic saya, which fit the White Oak Bokken, they are great for practicing drawing sword work too, like Iaido.
Some people will claim that the white oak is lighter, harder, softer, better to train with, has more qi / ki flowing through it. We at Enso Martial Arts haven’t found this. They are just as good as the red oak bokken and each individual bokken has it own feel. In an ideal world, you would want to get your hands on a few a choose from the selection. This way you can find a bokken you love and is perfect for your needs. Customers that come into the shop can do this, but, of course, it is slightly more difficult when buying online. We are happy to choose on for you, so if you have a specific preference, simply call us up and we'll hand pick one out for you matching your specific needs.
Even if you don't contact us befor eyou buy one, you'll be buying a good solid, reliable training bokken suitable for most Japanese Martial Arts and one that if you look after it will last you a lifetime.
“Let’s be honest, wood is not indestructible and even though these White Oak Bokken will take a lot of punishment they are not toughened steel. Do your training and don’t make an effort to break the thing and it will last you a lifetime.”
