T'ai Chi Ch'uan Description

Reversing the New Age trend toward romanticizing t'ai chi, this book delves into its martial side as opposed to Taoist theory or solo forms. Discover new directions for your training and deepen your martial skill by exploring the martial use of internal energy or ch'i, unarmed defense against weapons, the value of cross-training in the martial arts and more.

'On the back' of T'ai Chi Ch'uan

Tai chi ch'uan was developed by pragmatic men who were determined to "do unto others before they had it done unto them." Unfortunately, the art has assumed a pseudospiritual veneer from its contact with the New Age movement. This romanticizing of tai chi, which is more than a little at odds with its rough and unromantic Chinese beginnings, has resulted in a tendency to ignore or obscure its martial roots.

In this book, author Michael Babin seeks to reverse this trend, focusing instead on the martial side of t'ai chi as opposed to Taoist theory or solo forms. It is aimed at those who have learned and practiced one or more forms and want to explore new directions for their training, as well as those who have studied some of the martial aspects of the art and seek now to deepen their skill. It also delves into some of the controversial areas of t'ai chi, including the use of internal energy, particularly ch'i-kung, or sexual energy, and the martial use of ch'i; the potential value of cross-training in compatible martial arts; and training methods and attitudes that will help students apply the fundamentals in a defensive manner, including sparring, the use of safety gear, and training for unarmed defense against weapons.

We have a few different options for posting your items at Enso Martial Arts Shop. Prices vary depending on the overall order, weight, size etc. The checkout page will automatically workout the possible options for you.
We can send your item(s) in the following ways:
Courier Tracked - Order before 1pm, we can pack and post the same day to be with you the next working day, this is not a weekend service. It is fully tracked and we will send you the tracking number when we process your order.
Evri - In our experience an extremely slow service, we cannot guarantee it will arrive. It isn't an option on the website for good reason, so if you want this pitiful service and your parcel thrown into a random hedge near your house, if you're lucky, just to save about £2 then simply call us on 0117 942 5832 and we can process your order over the phone.
Fedex Worldwide - For anywhere outside the UK, we can post the same day but delivery times are dependent on the destination. Approximate delivery times are as follows:
  • Europe: 2-3 working days
  • USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand: 3-4 working days
  • All other destinations: 4-7 working days.
