Tai Chi Shoes Rubber Sole Description

Tai Chi is an internal or soft martial arts from China. Most people practice nowadays for health and wellbeing. The focus in the practice is on balance, posture and movement. Well actually let’s be more specific natural balance, natural posture and natural movement. Therefore, what your feet are doing is very important.

Trainers, sports shoes, walking boots, running shoes, etc. all put your foot in a position specific for that sport or activity. They are fit for purpose, maybe providing support, or cushioning, but not what we want for Tai Chi. A lot of these shoes help you reduce injuries because most of us don’t have a natural foot position.

Low impact Tai Chi however, requires you to feel the floor so you can learn how to achieve this Natural foot position, thus helping to put your body back where it should be in the most natural position possible. The feet give you great feedback to how you are progressing. Without the feel of the floor using your feet you are restricted in understanding where your problems lie and how to improve your posture.

So then what are the best shoes for Tai chi practice?

You will need a shoe that has a thin sole and is flexible, you need a lightweight shoe in general so there is no extra necessary weight on your joints. You need a canvas breathable top so your feet can breath, keeping you comfortable and relaxed.

The sole of the shoe is really the only thing that varies for Tai Chi shoes.

This particular Tai Chi shoe, the Rubber sole variety, is perfect for someone training on polished stone floors, laminate or wooden floors. Due to the rubber sole it gives much more grip that the other Tai Chi shoes we sell. Styles like Chen Style and Yang style tend to have quite low stances, especially Yang. Without some form of grip you will find your feet sliding away from you. These shoes will help to stop that. Also, all Tai Chi styles at time will have you on one leg, and practicing kicks usually at a slow pace. The grip from the sole helps stabilize your feet and keep you upright.

The Tai Chi Shoe Rubber Sole has a very flat sole which allows you to feel the floor with your feet and know how your body is moving and how it is affecting your balance. Exactly what you want for Tai Chi practice. They are extremely lightweight so after time you won’t notice you are even wearing shoes at all.

Made with a canvas top and rubber bottom, you’ll find your feet can breath easily. These Tai Chi Shoes rubber sole are being worn all over China for the practice of Tai Chi, Qi Gong and everyday wear outside.

Advice from the shop on our Tai Chi Shoes Rubber Sole

“Our customers find these Tai Chi rubber sole shoes are really wide, so most people buy one size down, sometimes two. The aim is to have a slightly squashed big toe and this will stretch the shoe over a couple of hours to give you a perfect fit.”

Sizing of the Tai Chi Shoes Rubber Sole

Before you read on, please note that this advice is what we have gathered over the years from selling these shoes to hundreds of people. Shoe fitting is an imprecise art. We can advise best we can but of course will not always be 100% accurate for everyone. Saying that we’re pretty confident we can find you the right shoe 99% of the time.

Tai Chi Shoes Rubber Sole come in European sizes. They are a wide fit as in wider than what you’d normally expect from a size of that size. Therefore EU42 is usually equivalent UK8 but I would advise someone with a UK size 9 foot to buy these. That will be your best bet. You may have the large toe a little pressed to start with, but this will very quickly stretch out to give you a good fitting shoe. Check out our size chart for your (best guess) UK size.

- EU 35 = UK 3

- EU 36 = UK 4

- EU 37 = UK 5

- EU 38 = UK 5.5

- EU 39 = UK 6

- EU 40 = UK 7

- EU 41 = UK 8

- EU 42 = UK 9

- EU 43 = UK 10

- EU 44 = UK 11

- EU 45 = UK 12

Please note these are guesstimate size conversations as European sizes don't covert to UK sizes perfectly. We have been selling these Tai Chi Shoes Rubber sole for 15 years so if you're not sure what your EU shoe size is, please contact us at our shop to discuss your best choice

Shipping your Tai Chi Shoes Rubber Sole

We have a few different options for posting your items at Enso Martial Arts Shop. Prices vary depending on the overall order, weight, size etc. The checkout page will automatically workout the possible options for you.
We can send your item(s) in the following ways:
Courier Tracked - Order before 1pm, we can pack and post the same day to be with you the next working day, this is not a weekend service. It is fully tracked and we will send you the tracking number when we process your order.
Hermes - In our experience an extremely slow service, we cannot guarantee it will arrive. It isn't an option on the website for good reason, so if you want this pitiful service and your parcel thrown into a random hedge near your house, if you're lucky, just to save about £2 then simply call us on 0117 942 5832 and we can process your order over the phone.
UPS Worldwide - For anywhere outside the UK, we can post the same day but delivery times are dependent on the destination. Approximate delivery times are as follows:
  • Europe: 2-3 working days
  • USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand: 3-4 working days
  • All other destinations: 4-7 working days.

First time ordering from Enso... and I am really pleased with the service and the product. I received notification of the delivery expected date and was updated throughout the process. The quality of the footwear is lovely and despite it being my first pair of Tai Chi shoes, I think they are brilliant. Very simple style, but feel great when wearing and the fit is superb - something I was really worried about initially. Highly recommended!

Just what you need for tai chi and a minimal house-shoe!
These shoes just do exacly what you need from them: they provide a minimal flat sole giving a little insulation and modest grip, and a snug fitting top to enable stretching, dao yin, chigung and tai chi practice with genuine connection with the ground.
I actually wear them around the house generally too, particularly in the winter.
The only tai chi shoe you'll ever need.
