Japanese Tenugui Head Wrap Description

Japanese Tengugui is a traditional hand cloth made from cotton, they date back to the Heian period or possibly even earlier. By the Edo period, Tengugui stayed at what they are today; about 35 by 90 cm in size, nearly always plain for flat woven, always dyed with plain color or patterns. The long sides are finished with a hem, while the short sides are left unfinished to allow fraying, giving that super cool old skool look. Even though they can be used a cloth or towels in martial arts they are used by Kendo practitiioenrs as headband or head scarfs that go underneath the kendo Headguard or men. This helps wick up sweat and acts as padding from the hard head protection.
