The Wing Chun Pole is used for training strength, especially in the wrists and forearms but accuracy too. Made from Red Oak and measuring at 2.5m long
The Wing Chun Pole has a few different names such as the Win Chun Long Pole, Wing Chun Dragon pole as well as Luk Dim Boon Kwan in Catonese. They are reported to have been added to the Wing Chun Style when it's practitioners were part of the Red Boat operas around late 1800s and early 1900s. Used a the pole for poling the boats it has become a mainstay and often the first weapon used for training in Wing Chun. Not only are sparring, fighting techniques taught but also strength training, especially in the wrists and forearms but for accuracy training too.
The Wing Chun Pole could have measured up to 13ft or perhaps even longer but in the modern world of the West these lengths aren't always practical. 8ft is pretty much as long as we can source them, in terms of getting the sent to us and fitting them in our shop. Even now they only just fit in our weapons racks in the shop
Traditionally the Wing chun Pole would have been made from Ironwood, a now very rare wood which can only really be salvaged from old Boats. These days a lot of Wing Chun Poles are made from Red Oak which is a very durable, hard wearing and much cheaper and more available than Ironwood The Wing Chun Pole tapers down the length of the Wing Chun pole, measuring 2.5cm at the tip and 3.5cm at the butt. Red Oak wood is super durable but, be mindful that it is wood and isn't indestructible. Being a natural material, Wood can break so a real thumping could end up with a broken stick. Look after your staff and it will last you for years.

Most Staffs at Enso Martial Arts Shop are the standard Bo length of 6ft but these Wing Chun Pole are a fair bit longer than that. There can be minor variations on thickness and weight bu these are Dimensions of the Wing Chun Pole

- Diameter at End (Tip) =2.5cm / 1"
- Weight = 1.9kg

My wing chun pole came yesterday and I’m very happy with it. Not the heaviest I’ve used but has lovely flex to it.
Very Helpful and Quick Service. Wing Chun pole is great that i got. Used online service and no problems. Will be buying from them again in the future, so can't say fairer than that.
