Records of these being use in China go back 1500 years, They are one of the longest range weapons in Chinese Kung Fu, one, that is, you can retrieve easily once you’ve thrown it. Other weapons exist that are very similar, the Chinese Rope Dart, Flying Claw, all of which have very similar techniques with their own added flair. The Chinese Meteor Hammer ‘s specialty is the two heavy balls, which could smash and bludgeon. This is one of the more rarer and advanced weapons of Chinese Kung Fu and are mostly known in Shaolin Kung Fu and Modern Wushu. But even then you don;t see them being used that much.
The Chinese Meteor Hammer has a 13ft rope attached with 3 rings one each end. These ring have additional rings through that jangle and makes noise. A flag is tied to these ends, which helps with noise, but also helps stabilise the hammers moving in the air. You then get a 190g meteor hammer on each end, These Meteor hammers are hollow, which is good. Traditionally they would be solid, but they are so heavy and dangerous it's much better they are hollow to help reduce weight.
Most of the techniques are based around preparing to throw out, throwing out and retrieving it back. There are also a lot of spinning techniques which helps utilise both hammer at the same time. This can be done from almost any part of the body but mainly the feet and hands, elbows and neck. There are also some techniques that involve locking and tying and opponent.
“The actual ball is not as heavy as you’d think, most of these in modern times are hollow but it is still as danger when spinning around your head. If this clonks you one, you’ll know about it, wherever it hits you.”
