Pre modern times have seen spears exist at some point in almost every civilisation’s history, especially warring states. It’s a really simple weapon to manufacture and repair. The Chinese Kung Fu Spear is no exception to this and spears have existed in China for over a thousand years. With this Kung Fu Spear, the shaft is made from white wax wood, which is the standard nowadays whereas in wars and battles a harder wood was much more appropriate. Wax Wood is a very flexible wood, so the spear has a bit of spring to it, it also has a waxy feel to the surafce so allows smooth movement between your hands. they way it is made also leaves the knobbles and bumps on it, which help with grips. So it slides smoothly but also grips a perfect combination of features for a Kung Fu Spear.
Attached to the White wax wood shaft is a steel spear head. Which makes the spear 7ft long. A perfect length for Wushu Kung Fu and Shaolin Temple Kung Fu but also for most Chinese Kung Fu styles that train with them. In fact, styles such as XingYiQuan and Bagua Quan attribute their movement and forms to spear work. The metal spear head is hollow, helping kee weight down but also means it cannot be sharpened, very useful as no one needs to train with a sharp spear these days.
Attached between the metal spear head and the wax wood staff is red hair, traditionally this would have been horse hair but nowadays it is nylon. It's now decorative but in warring times would have been used to help stop blood from running down the shaft and making it all sticky. Gruesome but very practical.
“The kung fu Spear is longer than most courier van cages, so they hate taking them, apologies for the expensive delivery cost but that’s because we need a bigger van to get them to you.”
