Tiger Hook Swords Description

Tiger Hook Swords have a dubious history and some people even claim they haven’t been around that long at all. Some accounts go quite far back but really only as far as the Qing Dynasty. They are almost certainly not a military weapon and solely for personal use. As they would have been very expensive to make only the most affluent bodyguard would likely have carried these or simply have been gifted as ceremonial items. Many antique Tiger Hook Swords have been found to be unsharpened. They are mostly used by the Northern Chinese Martial Arts schools like Shaolin Temple Kung Fu and Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu, but the Southern Chinese Kung Fu style of  Choy Li Fut uses them too.

The Tiger Hook Swords look amazing and very different other weapons. They are the cross between a walking stick, a sword and sun and moon knives or Deer Horn Knives. All the techniques of these weapons can be used with the Tiger Hook Swords but obviously are limited for various reasons. The Tiger Hook Swords feature a hook on the end of the sword blade, which can be used to hooking as well as hacking and slashing.  The hooks can also be linked together to extend the length of the weapon. A gripped handle is protected by a crescent moon shaped guard. This woudl be not only a hand guard but sharpened to for jabbing and locking. The spike on the end of the handle coudl be used to stabbing but also locking. The techniques that can be learnt are limitless, you’ll love training with these and learning the forms.

These Tiger Hooks swords are obviously not made from combat ready steel but a single piece of sprung steel like many of the Shaolin and Wushu weapons these days. The blades to taper to the end which makes them much lighter for speed.

Advice from the shop on your Tiger Hook Swords

“The forms for these Tiger Hook Swords look great, be careful with the bottom spike as it can get caught a lot on your wrists. Try to do some partner work and there are so many techniques hidden away in the forms.”

Shipping your Tiger Hook Swords

We have a few different options for posting your items at Enso Martial Arts Shop. Prices vary depending on the overall order, weight, size etc. The checkout page will automatically workout the possible options for you.
We can send your item(s) in the following ways:
Courier Tracked - Order before 1pm, we can pack and post the same day to be with you the next working day, this is not a weekend service. It is fully tracked and we will send you the tracking number when we process your order.
Hermes - In our experience an extremely slow service, we cannot guarantee it will arrive. It isn't an option on the website for good reason, so if you want this pitiful service and your parcel thrown into a random hedge near your house, if you're lucky, just to save about £2 then simply call us on 0117 942 5832 and we can process your order over the phone.
UPS Worldwide - For anywhere outside the UK, we can post the same day but delivery times are dependent on the destination. Approximate delivery times are as follows:
  • Europe: 2-3 working days
  • USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand: 3-4 working days
  • All other destinations: 4-7 working days.
